meri dilli meri shaan?

its easy to say or write this, but when i try to count the number of things that make me proud of meri dilli i am not able to go beyond my first finger!

the good news is that there is one thing that is being added to this list - the 'new and improved' New Delhi Airport. The GMR-Fraport consortium had already started short-term improvements and will complete the aiport reconstruction by 2010. In addition to improving the looks, the experience and the technical aspects of the airport itself, it will develop an aerotropolis with 8-lane expressway and a high-speed metro line connecting to the city.

I have always commented that delhi airport feels like a chai ki dukaan, especially after you land there coming from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. But, hopefully the small and disjoint palam airport with one functional runway and bad taxiways will be replaced by a swanky state-of-the-art facility that will not require the airlines to hurl over it for 90 minutes before landing.

Why call it chai-ki-dukaan? Isnt this the same 'chai-ki-dukaan' that your parents took to see the world and then later on you did to come to the swanky O'Hare in Chicago ? Why does this starting point of your life's beautiful experiences look so lonely and desolate to you? I guess you are emotional about somethings but matter of fact about others. There is a disjoint in your thinking my-boy.

Delhi airport has definitely been the gateway to the world for me and it always feels esctatic to fly over the city and land at Palam. It is the strong feeling for this airport that makes me think critically about it. My attachment for the place does not change the fact that it seems like a chai-ki-dukaan in front of leading airports around the world. It is time we use our emotions to be critical rather than make it a basis to stall any development.

Your reply told me exactly what I knew you would feel about the question i had raised. Waise bhi I like giving your mind a verbal jogging once in a while.

Its the relative merit of the situation that demands action in the direction that suits our people as a whole. I feel a swanky airport would definately offer more comfort and a pretty escape into/from the horizon.
