kabhi alvida na kehna

What intrigued me most about this movie was not the story line or the actors, but the fact that inspite of very negative reviews this movie made more than a million buck in the USA over the first weekend after release. By the second weekend I found myself standing outside the theater with the movie going to start in a few minutes. The theater was very full by most hindi movie standards in US.

If you are looking for a serious movie that tackles the subject of human feelings trapped in the institution of marriage, then this is a thumbs up ... and off and on the movie will bring a smile too! Karan Johar has approached the subject in a very subtle manner, further enhanced by good performances.

I strongly feel that the movie is not trying to glamourize divorces or marriage break-ups, instead, it is trying to understand the mechanism of relationships that would help couples understand their own situation ... and ... who knows maybe save a marriage or two!!

Karan Johar never bothered to explain WHY was this hungry-for-true-love couple so easily disgusted by their life partners, who loved them despite SRK & Rani's coccooid nature. From the begining to the end, they are pissed and remain so. I mean... I dont get it. Preity is hot and sexy, tags along with sasu-ma and even gets home the bread+cheese, and doesn't say a word... now whats to get pissed about that. And Abhishek, he is every single indian girl's wet dream come true and Rani doesnt give him two hoots. Probably Karan Johar forgot the difference between the 'Childlike' and 'Childishness' 'coz he didn't cross the bridge when he came to it...

But i dont find this movie atrocious because he was not dishonest in the portrayl of the sadness. Probably he is maturing as a director, but not yet... not so soon.

Mana

PS: Literally in every scene, Bachchan and Kiron Kher perpetually hung out at the train station. Bollowood's rich oldies don't eat pasta at road-side stalls. Dude, get a life man.

for your love for rani mukherjee, here is a dampner... it has been proved that she is living-in with Govinda!!!

my gosh... what a pair. the dude is twice her age and he looks like her uncle.

anyway, looks apart, they must make a perfect match for each other because its only when one has found true love, that one gets the courage (and peace of mind) to attain professional success as well.
